What is P3, P4, P5 Tile Rating?

Choosing the right tile can be confusing—especially when you see terms like P3, P4, and P5. These ratings refer to a tile’s slip resistance, which is important for safety in different areas of your home.

P3 Rating
P3 tiles offer moderate slip resistance and are typically used for indoor areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, and living spaces. They’re suitable for light wet areas but not ideal for outdoor or exposed environments.

P4 Rating
P4 tiles provide a higher level of slip resistance and are often used in covered outdoor areas, such as patios or balconies. They offer better grip than P3 but are less common in many tile ranges.

P5 Rating
P5 is the highest slip rating, designed for outdoor and wet environments like pool surrounds, driveways, and exposed pathways. These tiles have a textured “grip” surface to maximise safety, especially when wet.

Where should you use them?

  • Indoor floors → P2–P3
  • Covered outdoor → P4
  • Outdoor / pool areas → P5
